Folios 243-244: Edward James Foote, HMS Thorn, the Nore. Asks that the Master, Master's Mate and Midshipman of HMS Thorn, sailing the detained vessels to port as ordered by Lord Dalrymple, might be allowed to return to her promptly as he is left with only one Petty Officer on board. He still suspects that the American vessel he detained has warlike stores under her wheat. Her Master has shown a letter addressed to a merchant in Lisbon, a Frenchman. This Master was an officer on the Thorn when she was in the service of America last war, and in her he took a New York privateer.
