Folios 248-249: Alexander Fraser, HMS Savage, Ostend Road. He has orders from Rear Admiral John Macbride to escort all the empty transports at Ostend back to the Nore. He made the signal for convoy on 11 June and brought his ship out of the harbour, but so far none of the transports has been able to get out. He will sail as soon as the transports emerge. The harbour is very narrow and difficult, and he is conscious that another fleet carrying cavalry is due shortly. He was ordered by The Duke of York on 3 June to land four of his guns, which have now been mounted on a new redoubt outside the town in expectation of an imminent attack by the enemy. As no other guns are available, he has agreed with General Mansell that his should remain there for the present.
