Description

Folios 228-229: John Davie, 14 Durnford Street, Stonehouse, Plymouth. Letter relates to the incident in 1801 when Captain Davie commanding HMS Tisiphone seized 2 American vessels who were trading with St. Domingo contrary to the Convention signed by General Maitland and Toussaint L'Ouverture. The owners of the George and the Olive subsequently took action in the British courts who found against Captain Davie. The Earl of Liverpool has now supplied him with a copy of the Convention which he now forwards to the Admiralty and asks that they agree to meet the expenses he has has incurred in carrying out his orders.

Folios 230-230A: enclosed with folios 228-229. Admiralty note referring the case involving Captain John Davie to Sir William Armstrong for him to consider.
