Folios 527-528: John Erskine Douglas, HMS Bellona, Downs. Reply to letter dated 7 November 1810 enclosing a copy of a petition to the Admiralty from Edward Curson Rawley formerly a Midshipman of HMS Bellona. Informs that on the recommendation of Admiral Curtis's Flag Lieutenant he was received on HMS Bellona on 28 July 1809 just before the sailing of the Expedition to the Scheldt and as he informed me he had served his time in the Navy and passed his examinations for Lieutenant, he was entrusted with the Command of HMS Gun Boat No 10. From his enquiries he is sorry to say that his conduct appears to have been excessively bad. Has also spoken to Admiral John Ferrier who Commanded HMS Albion at the time he was on her, who informed me that his conduct being bad he was discharged at the Cape of Good Hope into a Sloop of War. Further details can be obtained from Captain Davies, now in London who commanded the Division of Gun Boats.
