Description

Folios 258-259: Ross Donnelly, HMS Ardent, Cawsands Bay. He encloses a copy of a letter he has received for Admiral Young who is command in Falmouth. He will execute these orders as soon as they have a fair wind.. The transports will all be ready to sail in the morning. Captain Hardyman will take them to Falmouth and while he hopes the shops due from Portsmouth will arrive before he leaves, Captain Donnelly will follow with the 17th and the 9th Dragoons. He sayes both he and Sir Samuel Auchtermuty are in agreement that the 17th Dragoons are necessary if they are to accomplish their strategic aims and so he will pick up that regiment after the wind becomes fair.
