Folios 197-198: Mann Dobson, Killybegs, Ireland. He writes about Samuel McClintock who is the son of one of the local Sea Fencible petty officers. He is a fisherman and he has seen him often about his trade. He had taken part in Sea Fencible training from time to time and had applied for the post of signalman but that was refused. Shortly afterwards Captain Dobson heard he was headed for Londonderry from where he intended to emigrate to America. Accordingly Captain Dobson has written to Captain Bartholomew, alerting him so as to prevent him from emigrating and instead to secure him for the Kings Service. He refers to a statement by Mr Alex Young who is the Inspector of Fisheries and lives in Londonderry. This statment is incorrect in that it sayes Samuel McClintock was a yeoman. He was not. Instead he was a fisherman and he is not the principal support of his elderly parents. An older brother is employed at Maulinmore [Malin More] Signal Station and two other brothers live at home with the parents who are comfortably off. He encloses a copy of a letter describing the man found onbaord the ship Brutus, bound for New York.
Folio 199-200: enclosure with folios 197-198. Letter dated 29 April 1806 by P. Bartholomew. He reports he found Samuel McClintock on board the ship Brutus and he is now in the Tender.
Folio 201-202: enclosure with folios 197-198. A petition sworn and dated 20 August 1806, addressed to Earl Conyngham by Sarah McClintock of Darney. She starts by observing that her family has lived under Lord Congyngham's protection for more than a century. She recounts the impress of her son Samuel McClintock by Captain Bartholomew following a misrepresentation of his circumstances by Captain Dobson of the Sea Fencibles at Killybeggs. Principally he alleges that he was a Sea Fencible and a sea faring man. This is not the case, she states, instead he is a farmer working on a farm owned by Earl Conyngham and was a yeoman under the command of Major Nesbill. She asks Lord Conyngham to intercede and get her son freed. He is presently on board Salvidone Del Mana [Salvatore del Mundo?] in Plymouth.
