William Thomas's letter had been brought to him by James Quarrell, after which he waited on Jane Knight to try to obtain his property and stop the marriage to John Sanders, as requested in the letter. Jane Knight has received a letter from William Thomas saying to pass the property to Mr Stevens but she will only pass it to himself. There is a disagreement about the sum of money Miss Knight owes William Thomas, and Thomas King asks for a more specific account of the sum claimed. John Sanders was a gentleman's servant but is now Hostler to Mr Clark at The Crown (in Bicester). He is given to getting drunk and it is feared that he intends to get William Thomas's property and leave. The courtship has been 5 weeks. Mr and Mrs Kent have left Bicester and gone to Banbury. Old Withers, Comber [missing words]. Old Knight is not able. He will take on Combers and will be willing to employ William Thomas and Mr and Mrs Quarrell and friends, when there is peace. We are sending to Paris to treat with the Directory.
