Folios 446-447: James Douglas, HMS Saturn, Portsmouth. Received enclosed petition from Mr Hughes, Second Lieutenant this morning for their Lordships.
Folios 448-449: enclosed in folios 446-447. Lieutenant Robert Hughes, HMS Saturn, Petition. The late Admiral Robert Hughes’s son. Was appointed to HMS Rattler, 12 October 1789, serving on the Halifax station, Nova Scotia. Appointed HMS Diligent schooner’s Commander by Admiral Robert Hughes until 26 June 1793 when he was invalided with extreme illness. Hospital Surgeon recommended he move southward for his health to recover. Remained in very precarious health in New York till 21 November last when he returned to England. Recovered to serve as HMS Saturn’s Second Lieutenant. Says he isn’t entitled to half pay since 26 June 1793 without an order. Had to raise money for the necessities of life, cannot discharge his obligations as he’s received no pay.
