Description

Folios 395-396: Sir Ross Donnelly, HMS Pegasus, the Downes. Reports arrival with the transports, listed. Sailed from Leith, 25 October. Sailed from Humber, 4 November having been forced there by gales, 3 November. Says the Masters of the Transports scarcely obeyed his orders unless shots were fired. Sends list with HMS Pegasus’s log. Says London is totally unfit for transport. Peggy and Elbe, the only vessels who paid attention to his signals. Colonel Blake of the Northumberland regiment says his orders are to proceed to Jersey are dated 21 July. Seeks directions. Endeavoring to take convoy to Spithead. Carries fourteen mutineers from HMS Defiance, listed.

Folios 397-398: enclosed in folios 395-396. List of prisoners belonging to HMS Defiance arrived at the Downes in HMS Pegasus by Order, R [Robert?] A. Pringle, 6 November 1795. William Parker, Robert McLaurin, George Wythick, Martin Ealey, William Froud, John McDonald, John Sullivan and William Handy, Ringleaders. George Harden and John Prime disobeyed the first Lieutenants orders. Joshua Flint, very forward, Michael Cox, John Lawson and William Morrison, particularly active in breaking open the doors of the Magazine passage. Signed Captain Donnelly.

Folios 400-400A: enclosed in folios 395-396. List of Transports under HMS Pegasus’s convoy. The Northumberland fencibles regiment carried by the London, Richard Gardener, Owner/Master, Lady St Clair, William Williamson, Owner, John Perd, Master, Horta, John Elliot, Owner/master, Peggy, George Shirving, Owner/Master and Lady Cathcart, Robert Bruce, Owner/Master. Part of the 134th Regiment carried by the Elbe, David Salmon, Owner/Master and Turton, Robert Black, Owner, Thomas Hutchinson Master. N.B. the Horta parted company, 30 October.
