Folios 227-228: John Dilkes, HMS Madras, Deptford. Says he’ is in great need of a Purser. The contractors have sent people on board to set up the rigging. He will not require anything other than provisions after the Shipwrights have finished. The first Lieutenant is the only one who has yet joined. Requests a long 18lb gun to run on a slide fitted instead of the 32lb Forecastle Carronade which can only of use in a chase.
