Folios 242-243: Edmund Dod, HMS Dictator, Chatham. Acknowledges appointment of Thomas Edwards to the post of First Lieutenant but advises that precedent says that as Lieutenant J Philips is First Lieutenant and has indicated that he wishes to be so on HMS Dictator having previously served on HMS Lowestoffe under his command hopes that they will grant this request.
Folios 244-245: enclosure with folios 242-243. Letter dated 2 October 1793 by Lieutenant John Philips, HMS Perseus, Liverpool, to Edmund Dod, HMS Dictator. Accepts his offer.
