Description

Folios 609-610: John Davies, HMS Otter, North Sunderland. Response to a request to state the case of eleven men impressed out of the Cruizer Privateer. Reports that their names were not on the Protection of the Articles. Encloses statements from the Officers who actioned the impress.

Folios 611-612: enclosure with folios 609-610. Letter dated 19 July 1805 by John Richardson, HMS Otter, Shields Roads to John Davies, HMS Otter. Reports that he was told by the Commander of the men taken out of the Cruizer Privateer had on his second visit been told that they had been mustered according to Act of Parliament, but he was unable to prove it. The men were entered on the Ship's Articles but were on no other lists.

Folios 613-614: enclosure with folios 609-610. Letter dated 19 July 1805 by William Barnham Rider, HMS Otter, Shields to John Davies, HMS Otter. Reports that he found no regular list of the Ship's Company other than the one he showed the Captain. On requesting the Protection for inspection this was not granted. He could not swear to the names of the men that were on it as some of them were absent on Prizes but reiterates that he bought no man on board but that were entered in the Ship's Articles but were on no other list.
