Description

Folios 591-592: John Davies, HMS Otter, Shields. Response to a request to state the case of eleven men who were taken out of the Cruizer Privateer. Encloses reports from the Officers who boarded her and outlines the actions taken to confirm they could be impressed. One of the men was the Gunner Thomas Jones. the name on the ships list was Thomas Thomas. He is now asserting that the mistake was made by the foreigner who took the names down.

Folios 593-594: enclosure with folios 591-592. Letter dated 9 July 1805 by Lieutenant William Barnham Rider, HMS Otter, North Shields to John Davies, HMS Otter. Outlines impressing eleven men on 15 June 1805, who were without Protection Certificates and were procured at some of the out ports.

Folios 595-596: enclosure with folios 591-592. Letter dated 9 July 1805 by John Richardson, HMS Otter, North Shields to John Davies, HMS Otter. Reports boarding the Cruizer Privateer on 15 June 1805 with Lieutenant William Barnham Rider and assisting him in impressing eleven men. As they were not entered on the ships protection and not touched a King's Port since their entry without being regularly mustered, it was their duty to take them for the Service.
