Folios 597-598: Philip Charles Calderwood Henderson Durham, HMS Defiance, Portsmouth Harbour. Reply to letter dated 24 July 1804 with enclosure and in replyinforms that Charles Francis is fit for service, at the same time, he has not the least objection to receive an Able Seaman in lieu of him. Thomas George, Quarter Master on HMS Defiance who is admitted into the Royal Hospital Greenwich is Captain of the Hold and a very useful hard working man. Requests he be permitted to continue to act in that situation on HMS Defiance.
Folio 599: enclosure with folios 597-598. Letter dated 23 July 1804 by John Sharratt, Walsall, to the Admiralty. Request from the widow Steel for the discharge of her son Charles Francis from HMS Defiance dated 23 March 1804 to which solicitation he received your answer of 27 March 1804 informing me the request could not be granted. He informs that an Able man shall be provided to serve instead of him and again request he be discharged.
