Folios 222-223: John William Taylor Dixon, HMS Apollo, [Cork Harbour]. Order from Admiral Alan Lord Gardner, HMS Trent, Cork Harbour. Under the unfortunate circumstances of HMS Apollo striking the Ground in going out of the harbour this morning and from your report made to me together with your Carpenter's opinion, that the damage is serious. You are directed to make the Signal for Convoy to the Eastward and take under your care and protection the Experiment, East India Ship also two homeward bound West India Ships (part of the Chichester Convoy) and such other Trade as may be ready and whose Masters are willing to avail themselves of your Convoy, and the first favourable opportunity of Wind and Weather to proceed to the Downs.
