Folios 216-217: John Dilkes, HMS Salvador del Mundo. Reply to letter dated 6 March 1804 with a request for a district account of the expense he has incurred for postage etc. etc. He has not in his power to comply, for he never kept account of money in his life and he never thought of being repaid until he found the expense of postage a little vexatious (sometimes six or seven shillings a week though sometimes a week with out any) and that there was allowance made to others. He thought it better to apply for the same indulgence. Has been here seven months, used two reams and a half of paper and four hundred quills, the other trifles he forgets.
