Description

Folios 580-581: James Dunbar, HMS Poulette, Plymouth Sound. Reporting that three of the guns have been dismantled following the cannonade on the coast of France, because of the insufficiency of the long bolts to secure them. The effect of the chains being constatnly in the water is detrimental.

Folios 582-583: enclosure with folios 580-581. Letter dated 8 October 1803 from James Dunbar, Plymouth Yard, to Commissioner Fanshawe, recommending plates be fitted to HMS Poulette instead of chains, and to place the bolts higher. Asks whether this should be carried out now.
