Description

Folio 329: Manley Dixon, HMS Genereux, Port Mahon. Reports that the convoy of Victuallers under Edward Leveson Gower in HMS Pomone has been kept in port as there is uncertainty about the French squadron. HMS Pomone, HMS Mermaid, the brigs HMS Speedy and HMS Kangaroo are on the coast of Spain and France. HMS Caroline will be sent to Carthagena and HMS Pearl to Barcelona. Further details follow.

Folios 330-331. Thomas Cochrane, HMS Speedy off Barcelona, 6 May 1801 reports the chase and capture of a Spanish frigate named Gamo, commanded by Don Francisco de Torris. He describes the battle in detail and how the boarding party of himself and Lieutenant Parker, Hon Mr Cochrrane, the boatswain and crew succeeded in taking the Spanish ship. He commends the crew, officers and the surgeon Mr Guthrie. A list of the killed and wounded on both the English and Spanish sides is attached.

Folios 332-338: Headed 'Information collected from Spain etc' 23 May 1801 Information received from Biaggio Luccienh, master of a Ragusa vessel reported 7 ships of the line and 2 frigates preparing to sail under a French officer. 1 June1801 Luca Giovanni Cassa reports 4000 French troops arrived from France for Carthagena and Cadiz. Further reports of Folio information follow dated 2 and 7 June 1801 naming other Ragusan vessels and their masters.

Folio 339: Admiralty note 'Cap D123 misplaced here'.

Folio 339A-340: Manley Dixon, HMS Genereux, Port Mahon 28 May 1801 refers to the enclosed letter from Captain Lord Cochrane describing the gallant exploits.
