Folios 176-177: Henry Digby, HMS Alcmene, River Tagus. He has received from Captain Morris of HMS Phaeton the orders dated 19 November relating to the convoy of British troops to Plymouth. He has therefore put HMS Brilliant in the Tagus under his orders and will report on progress when he has the opportunity. The troops destined for the Mediterranean have not yet sailed, and those for England have not begun to arrive. Also reports that the outbreak of smallpox, from which two men died, forced him to make for Lisbon in a gale after parting from HMS Sirius and HMS Diamond off Fevrol, with orders for Plymouth. Yesterday he heard from the Master of an American vessel that two large French privateers were cruising west of the Azores between the latitude of the islands of Fayal and Corvo.
