Description

Folios 172-173: Henry Digby, HMS Alcmene, Plymouth. Reports that Lieutenant M Killop has served to his satisfaction, but his ill health is such that the Surgeon has recommended a period of time in the country. Encloses certificates from Dr Trotter and Mr Beatty, Surgeon.

Folio 174: enclosure with folios 172-173. Letter dated 12 June 1800 by William Beatty, Surgeon, HMS Alcmene, to Captain Digby. Lieutenant M Killop has for some years been suffering from a scrofulous complaint which has recently become much worse and is now so bad that he is unfit for duty for many months. The Physician to the Fleet has been consulted, and has recommenced that he should go immediately to Harrogate for the waters, and remain there as long as necessary. Requests that he is replaced.

Folio 175: enclosure with folios 172-173. Letter dated 10 June 1800 by T Trotter MD., Physician to the Fleet, Plymouth. Certifies that Lieutenant Richard M Killop of HMS Alcmene has been affected with a scrofulous complaint for many years in various parts of the body. Many remedies have been tried and failed. The condition has now extended over the face and scalp, with very considerable inflammation. He is therefore unfit for duty for a considerable time, and would benefit from a long stay in Harrogate to drink the waters.
