Folios 148-149: Manley Dixon, HMS Lion, off Malta. The two gentleman:- Joseph Patey and George Lacey Decoeurdoux of HMS Lion were appointed by Earl St Vincent [Sir John Jervis (Viscount St Vincent)] as Acting Lieutenants in variancies on the 27 November 1798 and as they have both served their time, have passed their examinations and served under my command in different ships four and five years. I request they be appointed Lieutenants in the Line from the above date in confirmation of the order issued by the Commander in Chief in the Mediterranean.
Folios 150-151: enclosure with folios 148-149. Earl St Vincent [Sir John Jervis (Viscount St Vincent)], Le Souverain, Gibraltar. To Mr George [Lacey] Decoeurdoux. HMS Lion. Dated 27 November 1798. Appointing George [Lacy] Decoeurdoux acting Lieutenant on HMS Lion.

Folio 153: enclosure with folios 148-149. Certificate that Mr George Lacey Decoeurdoux severed as Midshipman on HMS Lion from 21 July 1797 to 17 November 1798. Then as Acting Lieutenant to days date. Dated 7 May 1799.
Folio 154: enclosure with folios 148-149. Certificate that Mr George Lacey Decoeurdoux severed as Volunteer on HMS L'Espion from 9 September 1795 to 19 November 1795. Then as Able Seaman to 20 July 1797. Dated 20 July 1797.
Folio 155: enclosure with folios 148-149. Manley Dixon, Trent Rendezvous. To Captains and Commanders of HM Ships [unclear ?]. Dated 22 October 1799. In the event of separation by bad weather or other accident between Plymouth Sound and Scilly you will go to Falmouth or Cawsand Bay.
Folio 156: enclosure with folios 148-149. As directed by The Right Honourable Horatio Lord Nelson Knight of the Bath, Rear Admiral of the Red etc. etc. etc. May 1799. We have examined Mr George Lacey Decoeurdoux. [List of service from 4 November 1789 to 7 May 1799]. Signed on HMS Lion in Palermo by Manley Dixon, George Burlton and Thomas [Masterman] Hardy. Dated 10 May 1799.

Certificate that Joseph Patey served as Midshipman on HMS Porcupine from 1 September 1793 to 18 July 1796 then discharged by Admiralty Order on the 1sr Class of Young Volunteers, served s such till 10 September 1794 and was discharged on Ships Books and then served as Midshipman from 11 September 1794 to to-days date. Signed Manley Dixon, HMS Porcupine, Spithead. 5 January 1795.
Folio 156H: enclosure with folios 148-149. Manley Dixon, HMS Lion, Bay of Naples. To Joseph Patey, Midshipman, HMS Lion, Whereas Lieutenant John Robert Lea Senior Lieutenant of HMS Lion is directed to repair on board the Spanish Frigate Santa Dorotea, Prize to HMS Lion. You are directed to do the duty as Acting Lieutenant on HMS Lion until further order.
