Folios 135-136: John Dilkes, HMS Madras, Spithead. As Mr West, Purser of HMS Madras was acting in that situation on HMS Lion when on her voyage to China, he is acquainted with what is to be got in the way of provisions, and says that it is impossible to procure cured beef, but that bread is plenty. He believes cured pork of very good quality is also to be found, Being ordered to complete provisions for only eight months, requests you will represent to the Admiralty would be pleased to order any part of thprovisions to be increased.
