Folios 275-276: George James Evelyn, Barbados. Response to a request to state the case of John McIlwin, Clerk on HMS Swaggerer. Reports he had 6 months leave of absence granted him by Sir Alexander Cochrane on 31 July 1809 to proceed to England in HMS Latona for the purpose of assisting in passing the accounts of HMS L'Eclair. At the end of 3 months after his leave expired, the Clerk of the Cheque at Antigua Yard ordered that he be marked as deserted on the Ship's Books.
