Folios 419-420: George Eyre, HMS Magnificent, Cawsand Bay. Encloses letter from Lieutenant Astley of the Magnificent requesting leave of absence due to bad health. States that it has been nearly three months since he was capable of doing his duty and it will take a considerable time for him to recover. His conduct has been excellent and on several occasions so meritorious that he is deserving of every indulgence which their Lordships may be pleased to grant him.
Folios 421-422: enclosure with folios 419-420. Letter from Lieutenant Astley, HMS Magnificent, Cawsand Bay dated 2 February 1812 to the Admiralty. Having returned from four years stationed in the Mediterranean, the latter part of which he had experienced extreme illness. Requests he is either superceded or his leave of absence extended to four months to re-establish his health and enable him to return to his professional duties. Letter also signed by Captain George Eyre and Surgeon Alexander Barry [?].
