Description

Folios 206-207: Charles Ekins, HMS Defence, Downs. Encloses list of four out pensioners, two from Greenwich Hospital and two from Chelsea Hospital. William Carpenter, formerly Sergeant of Royal Marines, received his"hurts" in that capacity on board the Defence in 1807. On his discharge Captain Ekins requested his appointment as Master of Arms. This was confirmed by a warrant given to him dated 21 October 1808.

Folio 208: enclosure with folios 206-207. List of out pensioners of Greenwich and Chelsea Hospitals belonging to HMS Defence dated 2 October 1810. Gives their names - William Hill, William Carpenter, James A. Church and James McDermott together with ships number, occupation, details of injuries and amount of pension.
