Folios 153-154: William Elliott, HMS Hazard, Hamoaze. Encloses copy of letter (not with letter) written by Captain Cameron, late of HM Sloop Hazard, in favour of William Ferguson, Boatswain, and also his certificate (not with letter) from the different Captains he has sailed with as per Admiralty order of 10 April. He was sent to be examined but as he is not able to write it prevented examining officer from giving him a Certificate. Assures Admiralty that William Ferguson is a sober, good, attentive officer and if he cannot be confirmed, requests he is allowed to remain acting.
Folios 155-156: enclosure with folios 153-154. William Elliott, HM Sloop Hazard, Hamoaze dated 11 April 1810. Confirms that James Ferguson has been Acting Boatswain of HM Sloop Hazard for the last two years by Order of Vice Admiral the Hon. Sir Alex Cochrane. His Acting Order having been forwarded from Antigua for confirmation, but as yet have not had an answer. Confirms that he is a deserving and excellent officer and trusts the order will be confirmed.
