Incorporated under Shireoaks Laughton & Maltby Railway Act of 9th August 1901. Company was vested in joint committee of Great Central and Midland railway companies under act of 2nd Edw. V11 cap.150 (31. 7.1902). South Yorkshire Joint Railway Act of 3 Edw. V11 cap.253 (14. 8.1903) deals with taking over of this project by South Yorkshire Joint Line Committee incorporated under this Act. This committee passed to British Transport Commission as from 1st January 1948 under Transport Act 1947.
