Description

Folios 545-546: Edward Edwards, Regulating Captain, Hull. Has recieved the letters of complaint against Lieutenants Dove and Loten and proceeds to set out their defence and character in detail.

Folios 549-550: enclosure in folios 545-546. Letter dated January 26th 1798 from Lieutenant James Loten, The Rendezvous, Hull to Edward Edwards, Regulating Captain. Sets out his defence against complaints against himself and Lieutenant James Dove by Thomas Johson.

Folios 547-548: enclosure in folios 545-546. letter dated 24th January 1798 from Edward Todd, Town Clerk's Office, Hull concerning the character of Lieutenant Dove.

Folios 551-552: enclosure in folios 545-546. Letter dated 25th January 1798 from Lieutenant James Dove, the Rendezvous, Hull to Edward Edwards, Regulating Captain, Hull. Refutes the charges laid against him by Michael Metcalf, owner and some time Master of the Concord tender.

Folio 553: enclosure in folios 545-546. Letter dated 20th January 1798 from John Kirkman, Surgeon and Agent for Sick and Hurt Seaman at Hull. Has examined the health of Lieutenant James Loten and in his opinion he is unfit for active service having a scrotal hernia.
