The Master, Samuel Bevan, did not apply to him for the discharge of James George which would have given an opportunity to investigate the business.. The certificate of registry appears to be a fraud. the young man says he was only 19 at the time the Master made the affidavit.

He sent to his father who is under[..] to Lady Mary Talbot at Penrice Castle for a certificate of his age which he received from the rector of the parish of Penrice. From his christening it appears to have been 21 last December. He immediately sent this to Lieutenant Rubidge as the Mater had told him such a certificate would clear the Mate which he assumed had been done. This morning he received a letter from Lieutenant Rubidge. He did not know that his personal application was required thinking the certificate was sufficient.
