Description

Folios 278-279: James Dykes, Arundel Street, enclosing order from Rear Admiral Benjamin Hallowell dated 4 August 1812 by which Captain John Davie proceeded in HMS Leyden with Major General Ross, 67th Regiment and wife for a passage from Alicant to Carthagena accompanied by the Mermaid and transport for the embarkation of troops at Carthagena. Also his order of 22 August 1812 directing Captain Davie to return to Carthagena with the Amity and Diana transports under his protectection and a detachment of 67th Wattevilles Regiment and also Maj Gen Ross and suite. On behalf of Captain Davie, he requests that he is recompensed for his expenses.

Folios 280-281: enclosure with folios 278-289. Rear Admiral Benjamin Hallowell, Rear Admiral of the Blues, HMS Malta, Aliant Bay, 22 August 1812. Order to Captain John Davie, HMS Leyden, by command of Rear Admiral Archibald Murray. He is directed to take under protection transports Amity and Diana, a detachment of 67th and Watteviolle's Regiment under Major General Ross and proceed to Carthagena. If he find yellow fever there he must keep the troops on board and have no communication with the shores until advisable. If there is a sufficient number of transports at Carthagena, he can discharge the tropps into the transports and preoceed to Alicant.

Folio 282: enclosure with folios 278-279. Rear Admiral Benjamin Hallowell, Rear Admiral of the Blues, HMS Malta 4 August 1812. Order to Captain John Davy (Davie), HMS Leyden, by command of Rear Admiral John Charles Weir. Lieutenant General Maitland had requested that a body of troops be embarked at Carthagena to go with the expedtition under his orders. He is to proceed to Carthagena with 800 infantry and 120 horses on transports and await further orders from Major General Ross.
