Folios 531-532: Man Dobson, Bristol Regulating Officer. Reply to case of John Harris belonging to the Racer Revenue cutter. Says the Racer is under repairs at Mr Teast’s yard. Concluded he was discharged as he didn’t know where the Racer’s commander was or anything about the vessel. He received a letter from Mr Donne from his villa, Myrtle Hall, Shirehampton 5 miles from Bristol on 11th and not of the 10th as in the copy. Says Donne visited the Rendezvous after he left. Doubts he was in the Revenue’s pay when he was impressed.
Folios 533-534: enclosed in folio 531-532. Letter dated 11 July 1813 by Benjamin Donne, Myrtle Hall, Shirehampton, commander of HM Revenue cutter Racer to Captain Dobson. Requests an order to release of John Harris, Seaman, HM Revenue cutter Racer. Says he’s indispensable. He is enforcing the quarantine laws and has three vessels from the Straits, two from Malta where there is plague. Asks can he have leave till next Wednesday so he can pay the last sad duties to his deceased father, when he pledges he’ll return him to HMS Enchantress.
Folio 535: enclosed in folios 531-532. Letter dated 15 July 1813 by Lieutenant William Pitman, Impress Service, Bristol, to Captain Dobson. Report, John Harris, age 20 was impressed by Thomas Davis, Midshipman 9th at 11 while passing the Rendezvous. Said he was from the Racer cutter in Stacey’s yard but didn’t have any protection or anything to certify such. Says he was at the Rendezvous from eleven till four before he sent for someone to assist. He does not know whether he was paid while in dock.
Folios 536-537: enclosed in folios 531-532. Letter dated 13 July 1813 by Thomas Andrews and John Gordon, Custom House, Bristol. Request the discharge of John Harris of the Revenue Service cutter Racer who’s been impressed. Send copies of letter from Benjamin Donne, her commander to Captain Dobson.
Folios 538-539: enclosed in folios 536-537. Letter dated 10 July 1813 by Benjamin Donne, Myrtle Hall, Shirehampton, commander of HM Revenue cutter Racer, to Captain Dobson, copy. Requests the discharge of John Harris belonging to the Revenue cutter Racer. Copy of letter Thomas Andrews and John Gordon, Custom House, Bristol, 12 July 1813. Captain Dobson, Bristol Impress to Thomas Andrews and John Gordon, Custom House, Bristol 12 July1813. Says he wrote to Mr Donne. It’s up to the Commissioners to discharge Harris.
