Description
Folios 472-473: Man Dobson, Bristol Regulating Officer. Sends LieutenantPitman’s report on Daniel Lee, said to be Master of the Two Brothers but ThomasDawson came from Ireland and assisted sailing her. The 1st Master on theregister is Thomas Dawson, Richard Lee the father and then assigned to DanielLee the son. They were all on board. Says the assignment went to Daniel toprotect him from the Impress and is a fraud. Folios 474-475 enclosed in folios472-473: Thomas Dawson, Owner, the Brothers sloop, Bristol, 6 July 1813. TheRegulating Officer has detained Daniel Lee, Master of the Two Brothers when itarrived from Kinsale carrying potatoes. The vessel is useless to him without aMaster and the former Master is away sick. Overleaf is affidavit, sworn beforeJohn Page, Bristol 5 July 1813. Thomas Dawson of Scilly near Kinsale, Ireland,Ships Carpenter is sole owner of the Two Brothers and Daniel Lee of Kinsale isMaster, for twelve months and is inserted in the sloop’s register. He doesn’tknow how to conduct a vessel at sea. Folio 476 enclosed in folios 472-473:Lieutenant William Pitman, Impress Service, Bristol to Captain Dobson, 9 July1813. Reports he pressed Daniel Lee, 23 years old 5 July and told LieutenantCampbell said he was the Two Brother’s Master, 36 tons arrived from Ireland.Believes it a fraud as Thomas Dawson, Owner and Richard Lee appear on theregister as former Masters and sailed with John Lee a brother of Daniel Leewho’s an apprentice to his father Richard. A stout healthy lad has been sentAble Seaman to HMS Enchantress.
