Description

Folios 457-458: Man Dobson, Bristol Regulating Officer. Requests an order for him to discharge James Welsh, Ordinary Seaman, Supernumerary onboard HGMS Enchantress. Says the disease he now suffers from was believed at the time he was impressed to be self-inflicted. He could not find this out sooner as HMS Ann tender does not have a surgeon.

Folio 459: enclosed in folios 457-458. Lieutenant Joshua Rowe, HMS Enchantress and Lieutenants William Pitman and John Campbell, Bristol Impress Service, HMS Enchantress, King road, 6 July 1813. Under Captain Dobson’s orders examined James Welsh’s case. Impressed 12 May 1813, ordinary Seaman, Supernumerary on HMS Enchantress asked Mr Yeatman, Surgeon employed to examine new recruits at Bristol and Mr Baldamus, Assistant Surgeon, HMS Enchantress say Welsh is totally unfit for service.

Folio 460: enclosed in folios 457-458. John C. Yeatman, Surgeon, Charlton Yeatman, Surgeon employed to examine new recruits at Bristol and Godfrey Baldamus, Assistant Surgeon, HMS Enchantress, 6 July 1813. Are decidedly of the opinion that James Welsh, Ordinary seaman, HMS Enchantress is unfit for service. Has a diseased testicle and open sore on his scrotum.
