Folios 232-233: enclosed in folios 230-231. Letter dated 11 May 1813 by Margaret Giles, at Mrs Sampson, 2 Nelson Place, Redcliffe Street, Bristol. Petitions for husband James Giles who’s been in the coal trade all his life. In distress with a small family and very near the birth of another, says she must come to the Parish. His friends will pay to get him clear. Afraid he’ll be sent to Plymouth.
Folios 234-234A: enclosed in folios 230-231. Letter dated 13 May 1813 by Lieutenant William Pitman, Impress Service, Bristol to Captain Dobson. He found James Giles, 25 years old working as a foremast man onboard a collier on Broad [quay], 5 May. Without any protection he’ is stout and healthy, seven years at sea. Put on the Ann tender, Ordinary seaman.
