Folios 194-195: Francis Douglas. Reporting on Andrew Bell Hancock onboard HMS Peruvian when he was First Lieutenant and Commander. Thought him active and attentive at first but had to forbid the young men associating with him as he was addicted to drink whereupon he became insolent. He overlooked this due to his having lost a leg in action until his conduct became so bad that when Captain Irwin, HMS Renaldo needed a Midshipman and said he would take him, he discharged him on Admiral Campbell’s orders. He didn’t replying sooner as he wasn’t home when their letter arrived.
