Description

Folios 384-385: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reply to letter dated 5 July 1810. Sends report upon the case of Thomas Pluse, Ordinary Seaman, sent to the Nore on 29 June 1810 and return the enclosed Protection taken from him when examined. Thomas Pluse was impressed on the River Tyne by Lieutenant [James] Dathan, South Shields on 4 June 1810 from the Two Sisters of Whitby., John Nicholson, Master and was detained for the Service as having been more than 3 years at Sea and having no proof of being under age. The enclosed affidavit from the Mother is positive that the lad is not 18 till the 27 July 1810, which I cannot dis-prove. On 23 June 1810 they brought to me a forged Certificate of Baptism from Bridlington making him only 16, which is the same age as shown on the Protection. [Mentions getting the Certificate of Baptism checked].

Folios 386-387: enclosure with folios 384-385. Petition dated 30 June 1810 of Thomas Backas, Queen Street, Sunderland. Request the discharge of Thomas Pluse.

Folios 388-389: enclosures with folios 384-385. Indenture for Thomas Pluse apprenticed to Thomas Backas.

Folio 390: enclosure with folios 384-385. Certificate of baptism that on 27 June 1793 Thomas son of George Pluse. Dated 20 June 1810. Signed George Smith Minister of Bridlington. Also signed by Paul Harwood and William Haycroft - Church Wardens.

Folio 391: enclosure with folios 384-385. Ann Pluse of Whitby in York, Widow. Maketh Oath that Thomas Pluse her Son was born on 27 July 1792 as per Certificate of Registry attached. Sworn at Sunderland in the County of Durham 26 June 1810. Before one of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace, J Thompson.
