Description

Folios 220-221: Benjamin Carter, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reply to letter dated 15 June 1810. States that John Bogert was impressed by Lieutenant Evans on 7 June 1810 as an Able [Seaman], aged 25, born in Kings County. He was taken on information as being married to a Daughter of a Mrs Edge with whom he lodged he said he never was in Liverpool until about 19 Months ago when he arrived in the Haywood of this Port and then he left monthly money for his wife. Mrs Edge the Mother in Law said he had lodged with her for nearly four years. Thomas Benton entered with Lieutenant Potter on the 16 May 1810 as a Boy Volunteer aged 17, born in Leeds. He positively denied being an Apprentice.

Folios 222-223: enclosure with folios 220-221. Letter dated 5 June 1810 by Sturdy & Buckle, Liverpool. Requests the discharge of Thomas Benton.

Folios 224-225: enclosures with folios 220-221. Letter dated 13 June 1810 by Baldwin & Swinden, Solicitors, Liverpool. Requests the discharge of John Bogert from HMS Princess. He was born in Long Island Kings County in New York, America and was apprenticed to Joseph Marsh of New York - Bricklayer and in consequence of the death of his master he went to sea. He was impressed onto HMS Penelope and then discharged as an American Seaman. [Total of two sides of text].
