Folios 136-137: Benjamin Carter, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Covering letter for the enclosed document produced by a man calling himself John Bocatt who was impressed by Lieutenant Evans as an Able [Seaman], aged 25, born in Kings County Healso, produced a protection for John Bocatt dated New York 8 July 1806 signed D Gelston No 3816. He was taken on information as being married to a Daughter of Mr Edge in this town with whom he lived. He acknowledged he had been impressed here about nineteen months since and was liberated on his protection, which he says was the first time he was ever in Liverpool, but his landlady claims knowledge of him (as her lodger) about five years since. It appears he sailed from this port in the Haywood about eighteen months since and then left monthly money to be paid to his wife.
