Description

Folios 23-24: Benjamin Carter, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reply to letter dated 29 May 1810. States that John Harding [Harden] was impressed by Lieutenant Evans on 12 November 1809, aged 30 and born in the State of Delaware. This mans case was reported in his letter dated 28 November 1809 in which he stated that he produced a protection dated Philadelphia 18 April 1804 which he said he received in New York in 1802. He did not match the description in age or height, is Married in this Town with a child and lives in Crosby Street. Cyrus Dole was impressed by Lieutenant Evans on 28 September 1809 as an Able [Seaman] aged 22 and born in America. It appears from Captain Hortons remarks that he produced a protection dated 24 May 1806 signed Josiah Jacob which he acknowledged was filled in by a shipmate named Windgate Pillsbury of the Mary & Ann and had it for five or six tears and is evidently a fraudulent document. The name John McMannis does not appear on the Books at the Rendezvous. John Edwards was impressed by Lieutenant Evans on 8 May 1810 as an Ordinary [Seaman] aged 26, born in Philadelphia. John Edwards was impressed by Lieutenant Evans on 8 May 1810 aged 25, born in Pittsburgh. He is a native of Whitehaven and served his time in Mt Litts employ in this town. Frederick Edwards was impressed by Lieutenant Evans on 8 May 1810 aged 21, born in Eastport. He is a native of Wales. Information on the last two men was given by Thomas Harris Cook of HMS Ocean with whom they came to this port.

Folios 25-26: enclosure with folios 23-24. Certificate dated 13 January 1810 that John Harden is an American Seaman, born at Duck Creek Cross Roads in Delaware. Sworn by Presley Hull , before Abraham Shoemaker, Alderman.

Folios 27-28: enclosure with folios 23-24. Certificate dated 24 May 1806 that Cyrus Dole an American Seaman, aged 18 and is a citizen of the United States of America. Signed Josiah Hook.

Folio 29: enclosure with folios 23-23. American protection certificate dated 29 March 1805 for Thomas Ball, aged twenty.
