Description

Folios 11-12: Benjamin Carter, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reply to letter dated 23 May 1810. States that John Love was impressed by Lieutenant Henry Raye on 18 May 1810 as an Ordinary [Seaman] aged 20, a native of Scotland and was Mate on the Isabella. He was apprehended on shore at 20 minutes after nine o'clock at night but ran from the Gang and was followed to the ship where he was taken. George Marsden was impressed by Lieutenant HenryRaye on 15 May 1810 as an Ordinary aged 24, born in Halifax Yorkshire, He said his name was Wright and produced a protection for a Thomas Wright as a hand employed in the flat called Single Sister. The proprietor have more that their full number protected. Hugh Knox was impressed by Lieutenant Henry Raye on 17 May 1810 as an Able Seaman aged 45 a native of Scotland. He said he was the Owner of the Brig Tay - The Master was impressed at the same time, and it appeared by confusion that they both sailed her. I consider owners of vessels using the sea (if Mariners) not exempt from the Impress.

Folios 15-16: enclosure with folios 11-12. Letter dated 21 May 1810 by John Simpson, No 1 Graving Dock, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Request to discharge George Marsden.
