Description

Folios 234-235: Benjamin Carter, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. He gives a further response to concerns raised with the Admiralty that some men have been improperly impressed, including the 4 cases presented by Admiral Young. He assures the Admiralty that he has reviewed all his actions to ensure that he followed their instructions and that he does not believe that any wrongful impressments have occurred. The men who now appear to have physical ailments were in his opinion, fit at the time of their impressment.

Folios 236-237: enclosed with folios 234-235. Letter dated 6 April 1810 by Joseph Dalloway, Surgeon, Liverpool. He reports on the health of James Morris, Thomas Deane, Hugh Stevens and James Williams.

Folios 238-239: enclosed with folios 234-235. Letter dated 30 March 1810 by William Young, Admiral, Salvador del Mondo, Plymouth. He believes that he has on board men who have been improperly impressed and others where the discharge ordered by the Admiraly has not taken place. he gives the example of Hugh Stevens who was recently discharged on Admiralty orders and who has now been impressed and returned to Plymouth.

Folios 240-241: enclosed with folios 234-235. Letter dated 27 March 1810 by Daniel Harris, HMS Resolve, Hamoaze. He gives an account of his impressment at Liverpool and how his documents showing that he was protected as an American citizen were taken and not returned. He is concerned for the safety of his ship, the Isabella of Charleston which is lying in George's dock at Liverpool.
