Description

Folios 609-610: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Response to a request to state the case of William Green, aged 24, now on board HMS Lyra and Joseph Winter, aged 28, on board HMS Eliza, and encloses both affidavits taken from them when they were impressed. William Green was imprest by Lieutenant Thomas Flinn on 21 February 1810 from on board the Spencer of Newcastle. He was taken for service being a seaman and having no legal Protection. The affidavit given to him by Henry Marwood stating him to be Master did not have his name upon the Register as such, therefore he has no Protection. Joseph Winter was also impressed by Lieutenant Thomas Flinn on the same date, from the same ship, with the same omission on his Protection.

Folios 611-612: enclosure with folios 609-610. Folios 613-614 is also attached to folio 612 by sealing wax. Thomas Smith, Newcastle to the Admiralty, 26 February 1810. Encloses an affidavit by Henry Marwood, Master of his ship Spencer in relation to William Green, Chief Mate, and Joseph Winter, Carpenter, who have been impressed and requests their discharge.

Folios 613-614: enclosure with folios 609-610. Folios 613-614 is also attached to folio 612 by sealing wax. Affidavit by Henry Marwood, Master of the ship called the Spencer of Newcastle before Jonas Cockeill, Master Extra of Chancery and Public Notary, North Shields, Northumberland, 24 February 1810. Outlining the circumstances of William Green's, Chief Mate, and Joseph Winter's, Carpenter, impressment, both now being on board HMS Attender on the River Tyne.
