Description

Folios 584-585: Benjamin Carter, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reports Charles Pellerin, aged 21, was imprest by Lieutenant Potter on 21 February 1810 as an Ordinary Seaman. He states he was born in Quebec and came here on monthly wages but had no documents to prove he was a pilot. As the firm he works for have been guilty of breach of faith, and states the case of Elias Randall and John Dumaresq in mitigation, Captain Horton has requested a Bond of £100 from Robert Hamilton, the Principal of the firm. Charles McKillar, aged 32, was imprest by Lieutenant Potter on 26 February 1810. He said he was Mate of the Carling of Greenock but has not given Bond to prove this. James Taggart, aged 22, was imprest by Lieutenant Evans on 21 February 1810.He was born on the Isle of Man and said he was Mate of the Ferena. He was taken on shore after 8pm. Edward Carvel, aged 30, was imprest by Lieutenant James Hamilton Clarke on 23 February 1810. He said he was born at Portoferry and was Mate of the Selana but gave no Bond to act as such. A Certificate of Bond was produced saying Javage McNoble was Mate of the Vessel. William Ogden entered with Lieutenant James Hamilton Clarke on 17 February 1810 as a Boy Volunteer aged 16 and said he had never been an apprentice. He said he had been on a vessel to the Brazils. Christopher Warren, aged 29, was imprest by Lieutenant James Hamilton Clarke on 21 February 1810. Born in Ireland he said he belonged to the Earl Moira Packet and was taken on shore at 8pm. Encloses a note to Captain Edward Killwake regarding the discharge of George Warlock.

Folios 586-587: enclosure with folios 584-585. J Mercer on behalf of Hamilton & Graham, Liverpool to the Admiralty, 27 February 1810. Request for the discharge of Charles Pellerin who has been imprest. He came here on the schooner Marie from Quebec and he is needed to return to duty in Canada.

Folios 588-589: enclosure with folios 584-585. Neil Bannatyne, Liverpool to the Admiralty, 27 February 1810. Request to lay the enclosed affidavit before the Admiralty for the discharge of Charles McKeller [item not included].

Folios 590-591: enclosure with folios 584-585. M Taggert, 27 Mason Street, Liverpool to the Admiralty, 26 February 1810. Petition for the release of James Taggart who is an Indented Apprentice to Messrs Fletcher & Co. His Mother is a widow with a family and is reliant on him. He has been imprest and is on board HMS Princess. His friends are willing to provide a substitute in his place.

Folios 592-593: enclosure with folios 584-585. Nicholas Fitzsimons, Master of the Schooner Selana, Liverpool to the Admiralty, 26 February 1810. Petition for the release of the Mate of Selana, Edward Carvel. He arrived from Strangsford laden with wheat and he was taking merchandise to Greenock when he was imprest on 23 February 1810. He produced a Protection Certificate but could not produce a bond as one was not given in port.

Folio 594: enclosure with folios 584-585. Affidavit signed by Nicholas Fitzsimons, Master of the schooner, Selana, Liverpool before James Gilbert, Justice of the Peace, Liverpool, 27 February 1810. Statement about action taken in obtaining a Master and Mates Bond for Edward Carvel, Mate of his schooner, who has been imprest.

Folio 595: enclosure with folios 584-585. Affidavit signed by Nicholas Fitzsimons Master of the schooner, Selana, Liverpool before Edward Roe, Justice of the Peace, 27 December 1809. States that Edward Carvel is Chief Mate of the Selana and provides a description of him.

Folios 596-597: enclosure with folios 584-585. Peter Tessier, care of Messrs Follett & Neale, Liverpool to the Admiralty, 27 February 1810. Requests the discharge of his Apprentice William Ogden. They arrived here from Spain and he gave William leave to go and see his parents in Stockport, Cheshire. Provides an Indenture and affidavit by James Ogden, his father, confirming that his son was Apprenticed at 14 years of age., signed before Thomas Golightly.

Folios 598-599: enclosure with folios 584-585. John Matthew, Dublin New Packet Co, Liverpool to the Admiralty, 26 February 1810. Petition for the release of Christopher Warren, Steward of the Earl Moira Dublin Packet, who was imprest and is now on board HMS Princess. He has a wife and three children dependent on him. On the verso is an affidavit by William Roberts, Master of the Moira Dublin Packet confirming that Christopher was a Landsman acting solely as steward.

Folios 600-601: enclosure with folios 584-585. Benjamin Carter, Regulating Captain, Liverpool to Edward Killwick, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Requests George Warlock be sent on shore to the Rendeyvous tomorrow for examination as directed by the Admiralty.
