Description

Folios 528-529: John Coode, HMS Brisk, Cork Harbour. Encloses a passing certificate for John Newton, Acting Gunner, and recommends his promotion to the rank of gunner. He has been Acting Gunner since 29 April 1809 to his satisfaction and on the order of Vice Admiral James Hawkins Whitshed. His certificate however requires the signature of another Gunner.

Folio 530: enclosure with folios 528-529. Passing Certificate for the post of Master Gunner awarded to John Newton, as ordered by William Young, Admiral of the Blue. Given on board HMS Salvadore del Mundo on 20 November 1809 and signed by George Andrews, Captain, HMS Intrepid; J Spurling, Master of HMS Intrepid; Robert Simmons, HMS Salvadore Del Mundo, Hugh Craig, HMS Prince Frederick and and R H Giles, HMS Intrepid, all gunners.
