Folios 237-238: Benjamin Carter, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Response to state the case of two men who were imprest. Owen Griffiths, [Owen Griffis] aged 19, was imprest by Lieutenant Joseph Clarke on 11 January1810. He arrived in Liverpool on the Ellis from the West Indies. William Lawrence alias William Lawrenson, aged 27, volunteered as a Landsman. He entered with Lieutenant Henry Freeman Young Pogson on 10 January 1810. He made enquiries with both Lieutenant Joseph Clarke and Lieutenant Henry Freeman Young Pogson what bounty would be given for service. He volunteered after being informed he would receive 1 shilling at the Rendezvous and the bounty would be paid when he joined his respective ship. Also reports that Captain Mends received two substitutes to replace Hugh Williams. Theophilus Williams [Thophlus Williams]volunteered as a Landsman and joined 2 September 1807. William Johnson, volunteered as a Ordinary Seaman on 7 September 1807.
Folios 239-240: enclosure with folios 237-238. Margret Griffis, Liverpool to the Admiralty, 17 January 1810. Petition for the discharge of Owen Griffis [Owen Griffiths], aged 17, who is apprenticed as a glass cutter but eloped from his parents in Wales and joined the HMS Princess. He is the eldest of six children who are dependent on his income. Offers to procure and Able Seaman in his place.
Folios 241-242: enclosure with folios 237-238. James Lawrenson, Wavetree Nook, Liverpool to the Admiralty, 17 January 1810. Petition for the discharge of his brother William Lawrenson, who was imprest and is now on board HMS Princess. He is a poor labouring man with a wife and six children. He is unsure if he was prest or volunteered. The books at the Rendevous state he is 27 years old but he is in fact 40 years. He was balloted to serve in the Lancashire Supplementary Militia and a substitute was provided for him.
Folios 243-244: enclosure with folios 237-238. Hugh Williamson, Dundee to the Admiralty, undated. Reports that he was prest on the 29 July 1807 by Captain Corkitt [Captain Samuel Colquitt] and taken on board HMS Princess. He found 2 substitutes, Thophylus Williams [Theophilus Williams] and William Johnson to be his substitute and he was discharged. He then boarded the ship Johns belonging to the Shields bound to Coningurgh, Sweden and was shipwrecked at Dunnumbey, Ireland which resulted in the loss of all his possessions. He has since been imprest at Dundee. Requests the issue of a replacement Protection Certificate as the original was lost in the shipwreck.
