Description

Folio 109-109A: Benjamin Carter, Regulating Captain, Ramsgate. James Watson, 19, was imprest by Lieutenant Evans as an Ordinary Seaman born in Rhode Island and encloses a Protection.

John Harding, 30, was imprest by Lieutenant Evans and was born in Delaware and has a wife and child living in Crosby Street and encloses a Protection from Philadelphia.

Charles alias Jack, 25, was imprest by Lieutenant Evans, a black man, says he was born in America and is a native of Dominique.

Joseph Martin 23, was imprest by Lieutenant Rees and encloses a Protection.

John Perkinton, 22, was imprest by Lieutenant Pogson and produced a Protection from Baltimore.

George Johnson, 20, was imprest by Lieutenant Evans and was born in America.

Joseph Symonds, 22, was imprest by Lieutenant Evans and was born in Salem.

James Symonds, 27, his cousin was imprest at the same time

James Stanton, 19 was imprest by Lieutenant Evans and was born in Baltimore and produced a Protection.

William Smith, 36, was imprest by Lieutenant Evans and was born in New York and produced a Protection.

William Frazier 23, was imprest by Lieutenant Clark, he was born in America and produced a Protection in the Betsy Lains tender from a West Indiaman for munitions conduct but was discharged on producing the American protection but it is since proved he is married in this town, his wife went on board the Tender to claim his clothes etc.

Samuel Graves age 21 years was imprest by Lieutenant Pogson as an Ordinary Seaman and said he was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, but the Protection dated 17 March 1809 said he was born in Newmarket and is known to have been sailing from here for the past 5 years.

Benjamin Hutchins age 27 was imprest by Lieutenant Evans and produced a Protection dated Norfolk which he said he recieved in New York. Two persons of respectability, Francis Wise and James Maury, both of New York, appeared and spoke unfavourably of his character and believed he was a native of Halifax in Nova Scotia.

Returns the enclosures.

Returns an American protection dated Petersburg 30 Many 1807 offered by a man calling himself John Smith age 26 years who was imprest by Lieutenant Rees and acknowledged the Protection was a forgery filled out by the Captain or Owner, a Mr Le Mesurier at Guernsey who had a box of blanks and a box of Stamps of Seal.

Together with a protection granted by their Lordships in 1806 to a Robert Evans aged 55 years which was produced by a man calling himself Robert Evans and aged 34 years, born in Wales, and imprest yesterday by Lieutenant Clarke.

Folio 110: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection dated 16 February 1808 issued by the American Consulate in London to George Johnson, 18, having been discharged from HMS Fisgard.

Folio 111: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection dated 15 march 1809 issued by the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations to James Watson, age 17.

Folio 112: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection dated 18 December 1807 issued by the District of Baltimore to John Perking, age 21.

Folio 113: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection dated 3 August 1809 issued by the State of New York to John Jamison, a black man, age 24.

Folio 114: enclosure with folios 109-109A. Affidavit dated 21 November 1809 by Daniel Bray, Master of the American ship Exeter of Salem, Massachusetts, that he knows James Symonds and Joseph Symonds, 2 seamen lately imprest and held on HMS Princess, and declares that they are both American Citizens.

Folio 115: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection dated 19 May 1807 issued by the District of Salem and Beverly to James Symonds, age 24.

Folio 116: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection dated 27 April 1809 issued by the District and Port of Philadelphia to James Stanton, age 19.

Folios 117-118: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection and Pass dated 15 May 1809 and 30 September 1809 issued to Joseph Symonds, age 21.

Folio 119: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection dated 30 April 1807 issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at Salem to William Smith, age 38.

Folio 120: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection dated 17 March 1809 issued by the District of Portsmouth, New Hampshire to Samuel Graves, age 21.

Folio 121: enclosure with folios 109-109A. American Protection dated 1 September 1804 issued by the State of Virginia to Benjamin Hutchings, age 22.

Folio 122: enclosure with folios 109-109A. Forged American Protection dated 30 May 1807 issued in the name of the District of Petersburg to John Smith age 24.

Folio 123-124: enclosure with folios 109-109A. Protection dated 3 July 1806 issued by the Admiral to Robert Evans, age 55.
