Folios 212-213: William Culfield. Deal. Encloses a copy [not present] of the list supplied by Joseph Trowsell of the Naval office at Deal of the boats and small vessels employed in the late expedition of Rear Admiral Sir Richard John. Also encloses a copy of the only orders he received. States that the greater number [of vessels?] were employed in soundings and lying as buoys and light transports at the disposal of senior officers. He is unable to furnish exact information. He concludes by saying the commander in Chief commended the conduct and exertions of the vessels.
Folio 214: enclosure with folios 212-213. Letter dated 24 July 1809 by Richard J. Strachan, HMS Amythyst, Downs. Places William Culfield, who has volunteered his services, in command of all the vessels hired by Mr. Trowsell and report their number and capacity for carrying troops.
