Folios 152-153: Edward Henry Columbine, London. As required, he encloses statements concerning the sloops Mary and Ranger which were used in the reduction of Senegal.
Folios 154-155: enclosure with folios 152-153. Report dated 23 September 1809 by Edward Henry Columbine, London. The sloop Mary had a cargo of 45 tonnes of rice bound for Madeira. She was in a poor state due to weather and damage done by a French privareer. She would have needed refitting before going to sea again.. However she was lost on the bar of Senegal. He questions the insured value of £3000. The greater part of the cargo had been landed into Government House. The Ranger arrived under American colours with no papers. The Master ran away, taking all the black crew with him. Columbine used her in the reduction of Senegal and handed her over to the Master of the Mary as they had the same owner. He knows nothing about her being employed by the Government of Senegal. His using the Ranger in the reduction of Senegal would not have caused the owner problems - the damage was done by the Master who deserted her.
