Folios 237-238: James Coutts Crawford, HMS Venus, the Vigo River. Encloses a copy of a letter from the Governor of Vigo offering to surrender the town and forts to his ship, together with a copy of his reply. The French were anxious for him to accept the surrender without consulting the Spanish, which he refused to do because he did not think it honourable.
Folio 239: enclosed with folios 237-238. Copy of a letter in French from Monsieur Chalot, Governor of Vigo, addressed to the"Commandant de la Station Anglaise devant Vigo" and dated 22 March 1809. Offers to surrender the town and forts to HMS Venus.
Folio 240: enclosed with folios 237-238. Text in French of the proposed Articles of Capitulation.
Folios 241-242: enclosed with folios 237-238. Copy of Captain James Coutts Crawford's reply dated 22 March 1809 to the Governor of Vigo's offer of surrender. He will not accept any surrender without having first consulted the Spanish general leading his troops against the city.
