Folios 230-231: William Edward Cracraft, the Sea Fencibles, Shoreham. Encloses a letter forwarded to him by Captain Edward Walpole Browne but originally from Lieutenant William Bowden of Pagham Signal Station. Also reports that the arms and stores from the two boats Selsea and Bosham,, which are both unserviceable, should be either taken into a storehouse or disposed of.
Folio 232: enclosed with folios 230-231. Letter dated 10 July 1809 from Lieutenant William Bowden, Pagham Signal Station, to Captain Edward Walpole Browne, commanding the Sea Fencibles at Chichester. Reports that the magazine at his signal station has been damaged by severe winter weather, does not know whether it is still fit for purpose. When he took command four years ago, the Clerk of Works for the Ordnance Department said the doors and woodwork should be kept painted and the roof in good repair, but there has been no work done on the building in 14 years. Asks whether he should try to have it repaired, or move the gunpowder to a safer place.
